A lighting concept for a stairwell with daylight. The solution is a custom design in collaboration with our partner RIBAG, with a glass canopy. This allows the daylight to continue to be used in an energy-efficient manner. The focus is on the design luminaires and not on the installation or technology.

The lighting designer's requirement profile for the lighting concept of this renovated property from the 1920s was: implementation of energy-saving and glare-free lighting with simultaneous harmonious integration into the listed building fabric. For this purpose, timelessly elegant solitary luminaires were used, among others, which discreetly subordinate themselves not only to the architecture, but also to the interior design with the newly manufactured designer furniture.

In the course of the project, the entire church interior, the altar area, the aisle and the Lady Chapel were restaged in terms of lighting technology. The lighting concept was not only to blend harmoniously with the architecture of the church, but also to raise the previously inadequate lighting level. The old pendant luminaires above the altar area, which disturbed the view of the central altar cross, were replaced by powerful LED spotlights mounted on the ceiling at a height of over 12 m, creating a generous and open free space. Spotlights were used in the side aisle, as well as the surface-mounted luminaires already used in the Lady Chapel.

Through particular restraint in its appearance, the lighting design does justice to the clear architecture of the building structure and furnishings. An LED line becomes the link between the various functional areas of the building.

In 1998, the Hohenzollern Bridge was the first bridge over the Rhine in Cologne to be illuminated. The Cologne Tourist Office, which acted as initiator and sponsor, enlisted the services of Lichthaus Remagen for the technical implementation of the project. Heinrich Remagen developed the concept, which was implemented in the planning department of the house. Countless committees had to be consulted - from the real estate offices of the federal government, the state and the city, to shipping authorities and committees from rail operations, to the airport and aviation authorities. Finally, it was possible to realize this demanding project, for which Philips provided the luminaires. Remagen carried out the complete installation during ongoing rail traffic, including specially developed flanges for mounting the luminaires without damaging the bridge structure. In 2017, new LED luminaires were installed by the city.
